VAX

The VAX DMZ32 is a full modern control, 24-line, asynchronous multiplexer with direct memory access on transmit lines that provides local interconnection between VAX UNIBUS systems and up to 24 VAX EIA RS-232-C/CCITT V.28 termi- nals. The VAX DMZ32 operates at program-selectable Speeds of up to 19,200 bits per second in full- or half-duplex, with full modem control on each line. Split-speed transmit and receive rates are supported on each line. By incorporating Ti trans- mission between the VAX module and the distribution panel, the DMZ32 can be con- figured in a local or a remote location. In the local configuration, the DMZ32 can be mounted in the VAX H9642-FC/FD and VAX H9652-MF/MH UNIBUS expander cabi- nets or any existing 19-inch cabinet. The H9642-FC/FD can support one DMZ32. The H9652-MF/MH can support one VAX DMZ32 with two BA11-K boxes installed and two VAX with one BAll-K box installed. In the remote configuration, the VAX distribution panel can be mounted almost one mile (1.52 km) from the VAX. With the remote capability of the VAX, the distribution panel can be mounted in any 19-inch cabinet, including data and PBX cabinets or the VAX modem cabinet. The modern cabinet provides unique packaging possibili- ties by mounting modems and VAX options in the same cabinet, while remov- ing the EIA cables from the back of the CPU. For VAX systems that support large numbers of terminals or VAX systems in a cluster environment, placing the VAX distribution panel in a common remote cabinet, like the VAX, reduces the cost of needing UNIBUS expander cabinets for each system. The VAX is compatible with Digital's family of modems and with Bell 100 and 200 series modems and their equivalents.
