Storage Devices

The Storage Devices DMB32 is a host-based eight-line multifunction intelligent communications controller that enables a combination of modems and terminals to communicate with Storage Devices Digital's VAXBI processors (VAX 8200, 8300, 8500, 8550, 8700, and 8800). The DMB32 operates at speeds up to 38.4 Kbits per second per line (under speci- fied conditions) with full modern control. Actual device speed and throughput is dependent on current Digital operating systems, system configuration, and appli- cations in use. One synchronous line supports message framing, CRC generation, and checking with full modern control of the following protocols: HDLC, SDLC, IBM Storage Devices BISYNC, Storage Devices DDCMP, and GEN BYTE. The synchronous line is capable of run- ning at 64 Kbits per second in full-duplex for HDLC and SDLC protocols, and 19.2 Kbits per second for Storage Devices DDCMP. Other protocols are capable of running at 9600 bits per second. The actual throughput realized on the synchronous line depends on the user application. A device driver for the synchronous device con- troller must be ordered separately as a Layered Software Product. The Storage Devices DMB32 Synchronous Device Driver V1.0 provides a point-to-point operating mode in which the Storage Devices DMB32 is connected to a single other controller also operating in point-to-point mode. Refer to SPD 27.35. An optional adapter cable is required if the synchronous driver is ordered for use on the Storage Devices DMB32 50-pin D-subminiature connector. The adapter cable is orderable through Storage Devices P&SG. DMB32-M Includes base module only. For system installation, select the appropriate external cables and one of the following cabinet kits: CK-Storage Devices-LJ For use with VAX 8800, 8700, 8550, and 8500 internal VAXBI channels.
