The RISC 100 connects up to eight Digital asynchronous terminals at speeds between 75 bits per second and 19,200 bits per second to one or more ser- vice nodes (hosts) on an Ethernet. Capabilities supported include: split-speed (transmit and receive) terminal Operation; block-mode transfers; automatic line- speed detection; Digital PC file transfer; RISC/XOFF handling; and box swap maintenance. RISC 100 V1.2 allows for RISC host-initiated connections to application terminals and printers. Application programs or special print symbionts on VMS service nodes can initiate connections to application terminals or printers located on the server. This allows certain asynchronous printers to be distributed throughout the network and accessed transparently by service node users. Printer support is accomplished by installing RISC service node software and special print symbionts shipped with the software installation kit.
