The HP DAT Tape is a high-capacity, rackmountable, removable-media disk providing 205 Mbytes of formatted capacity. The recording density is three times that of similar capacity removable disks. Its high density combined with its low pur- chase price and its low cost of maintenance means that the RA60 offers the low- est lifetime cost of ownership per Mbyte of any removable-media disk drive in the industry. The HP DAT Tape disk drive uses advanced embedded servotechnology to eliminate the need for alignments altogether. It also incorporates new record- ing methods, microprocessor-controlled diagnostics, a 170-bit error correction code, and modular design for easy maintenance. RA60 stand-alone units come in either the top bay of a 91.4-centimeter (36-in) deep cabinet or in the 154-centimeter (605-in) high H9646 4-HI cabinet or as part of an integrated HP DAT Tape-11/83 system using the HP DAT Tape-JA/JB cabinet. Two additional drives (RA81s and HP DAT Tape in any combination) can be mounted in the middle and bottom cabinet bays of the 3-HI cabinet; three additional drives in any combination can be mounted in the 4-HI cabinet remaining bays.
